Mission

The Washington, D.C. Alumnae Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization under Section 501(c )(3) of the 1954 Internal Revenue Code, was organized in 1985 to support charitable educational, cultural, technological, economical and scientific development programs.  It provides grant funds for Washington, D.C.-based community programs/projects in these areas. 



History


The Washington, D.C. Alumnae Foundation, Inc. was established in 1985 by the Washington DC Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for charitable, religious, educational and scientific purposes.  It was initiated during the presidency of Olivia V. Aiken (1983-1984), and established during the presidency of E. Jean Christian (1984-1985).  Beulah T. Sutherland was elected the first chairman of the Foundation in March 1985.  The Foundation was incorporated on August 15, 1985.
